Replacing Rubber Bumpers

Replacing the bumpers, or Re-Rubbers as we would call them, are something that most every pool table owner has to go through at some point. Certain things on pool tables do go bad over time, like the cloth and the pockets. The Rubber on the rails does too. No matter how well a table is set up, no matter what cloth it has on it, if the rubber is bad the pool table won’t play anywhere near like it should. If we are out on a job and the rubber on the rails is bad or going bad, we will not proceed with any recovers under any circumstance. If you would like the table set up or moved, we can still do that, and will even level and bolt it back together for you, but we will not put fresh cloth on bad rails.

Changing the rubber on the rails is a straightforward process, but it isn’t something that we can do at your home. It requires table saws and other machines that can only be found in our wood shop. As such, we take your rails back to the shop, get the fresh rubber mounted, cover the rails with fresh cloth and bring them back out at a later date to finish the install. Turnaround time is usually two weeks, sometimes a little less. The silver lining is that the modern rubber we use doesn’t really go bad and makes any table play better than it did out of the factory. After we change it for you, you shouldn’t have to do it again in the pool tables life time. Any re-rubber comes with a 3 year warranty against any failures.

Re-rubbers require fresh cloth. Old rail cloth cannot be saved during this process, which means that you also have to recover the table.

The labor for a re-rubber includes the work it takes to mount new rubber and make the rail ready for use. It does not lessen the cost for a cloth change or recover. Since it requires multiple visits, one to grab the rails and the other to finalize the table, mileage costs for both visits could incur.

If you would like to use a certain brand of rubber other than what we use as standard, that is fine, but additional costs may occur.

Pocket Close Ups

Close-ups involve making pockets on the pool table smaller. This is a very popular service for serious players, or anyone just looking to take the game more seriously and get better. Standard pockets on pool tables are 5 inches wide in the corners which makes the game accessible for new players while still providing a healthy amount of challenge. Pockets on a tournament table, as well as most modern league tables are 4.5 inches in the corners, some tables are even tighter with pockets as small as 4 inches in the corner. 1/2 an inch might not seem like much but it changes everything. A lot of balls that would have gone in previously will miss entirely on the smaller pocket.

Most of our close ups involve going from a stock size pocket, 5 inches, down to 4.5. Unless otherwise noted and discussed, this is what yours will come out like. We achieve this process by adding wood the rail itself on both ends, mounting fresh rubber and extending the rail itself. This process takes a fair bit longer than a standard re-rubber, and as such the cost is higher. However, every close up INCLUDES a re-rubber with standard rubber, as we have to use fresh pieces of rubber during this process.
