Worsted Vs Woolen

Pretty much all pool table cloth is wool based. The vast majority of the fabric itself is wool, and then companies will weave various amounts of other materials to achieve desired results. Within the space, there are 2 main categories, and it all has to do with the type of wool being used.

Woolen Cloths are the entry level option. This type of cloth has been around since the beginning of the game, and it has stood the test of time. Woolen cloth has a slightly fuzzier texture which means the balls move a little slower, don’t roll as far, and the cloth can pill over time. That being said, the balls still roll plenty fast, roll very true and as such this cloth is suitable for any home application.

Worsted cloths are the other option being offered and they are becoming the industry standard for competitive and tournament play. They are becoming more popular in bars, and the only thing you will find on pool hall tables. The cloth itself is very smooth, and as such creates a much faster game on the table. These cloths also have nylon woven into the wool with the intended result being a longer life for the cloth. If you play competitively, or you just want your table to play as fast as it can, then Worsted cloth is the way to go.

Worsted Cloth

Incredibly smooth and ridiculously fast, Worsted wool has become the industry standard for high end pool tables, tournament play and commercial pool rooms alike. The smooth nature of the cloth makes the game play much faster, the ball rolls a little bit more consistently and in some cases the cloth itself will last quite a bit longer. Since it’s inception, worsted cloth has been a very competitive space and there are a lot of companies making the product. The result has been an arms race to create a product that plays faster and lasts longer than the competition. We have installed, tested and played countless racks on all of the worsted cloth options and we only use products in your home/business that we know and trust. Gorina Basalt

Gorina was the first company to make a truly commercial grade worsted cloth. Before they came along, no one was really using Nylon, and no one had figured out how to make a worsted wool more durable. When Gorina came along it promised pool room owners 6 months longer lifespan on their fabric, and they delivered. The result was worsted cloth that lasted longer than anyone thought possible and still played great. Everyone switched over, creating an arms race in the cloth world. Other companies imitated, some better than others, but to this day no one has done a better job than these guys. The ball rolls true, the cloth is very fast, but everyone’s cloth can say that. What sets this cloth apart is the grip on the cue ball. Every other cloth gets slick and slippery over time, and in our opinion that isn’t fun to play on. Gorina maintains grip from the moment it’s installed until the day we take it off. Even after extended periods in a pool hall, it plays as well as a lot of other products do when they are new and fresh. The cloth doesn’t loosen up and get baggy over time either, which means as long as your nice to it, the table will play more or less the same for a very long time.
